Job Title: Research Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Manager to join our team at LGC Group. As a key member of our research management team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the commissioning and management of our high-profile National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio of clinical and applied health research infrastructure funding schemes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Commissioning Research Infrastructure: Delivering new and renewed funding schemes for NIHR, working across internal and external teams to develop end-to-end processes to support funding calls, including developing guidance, FAQs, selection criteria, organizing and supporting funding committees, and overseeing the contracting process for funded applications.
  • Contract Monitoring and Annual Reporting: Managing contractual requests/changes required during the lifetime of the award, responding to requests for information (e.g., Parliamentary Questions or FOI requests), and reviewing and providing feedback on annual progress reports to ensure research progress against goals, governance, and management of the award.
  • Secretariat for Directors Fora and Activities: Developing an annual program of meetings to support the networking and collaboration of scheme Directors, including organizing meeting agendas, developing content for papers, drafting reports, presentations, and briefing documents.
  • Flexible Support to Team and Community: Conducting additional administration tasks and providing high-level support across the team at peak work times.
Qualifications:
  • A Master's or PhD degree in biomedical or health sciences research (or significant equivalent sector experience)
  • Some experience of working in one of the following environments: major research funding/management environment, research management within the NHS or HEIs or clinical trial/study coordination or applied health areas, pharma/biotech, or academic environment
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, working to challenging targets and deadlines
  • Evidence of ability to write reports and briefing documents, data analysis skills, demonstrating excellent attention to detail
  • Team player with an ability to build effective working relationships
Desirable Criteria:
  • Current knowledge of the UK's health and care research and policy landscape
  • Experience in the research/grants management
  • Experience in stakeholder management within and across multiple organizations
