Lead the Way in Healthcare Research

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is seeking a highly skilled Programme Director to lead its Policy Research Programme. This exciting opportunity will enable you to shape and drive the programme, influencing science, policy, and practice in the health and care sectors.

The successful candidate will oversee the NIHR policy research portfolio, including Policy Research Units, the Call-off Analytical Facility, and Evidence Review Facilities. They will work closely with the Department of Health and Social Care's Science, Research, and Evidence Directorate to maximise the impact of commissioned research on national policy.

We are looking for someone with significant experience in evidence-informed policy making, ideally through commissioning and translating evidence into government policy. If you have a strong track record of delivering high-quality research and a passion for shaping policy, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the NIHR Policy Research Programme, overseeing the policy research portfolio and working closely with the Department of Health and Social Care.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximise the impact of commissioned research on national policy.
  • Work with Policy Research Units, the Call-off Analytical Facility, and Evidence Review Facilities to deliver high-quality research.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Health and Social Care's Science, Research, and Evidence Directorate to ensure effective policy implementation.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in evidence-informed policy making, ideally through commissioning and translating evidence into government policy.
  • Strong track record of delivering high-quality research and a passion for shaping policy.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, including government departments, research institutions, and the public.
