Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Conservation Officer to join our team at Matchtech. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of our development management service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice to customers and the Council on all aspects of the conservation of the historic environment, including historic buildings and conservation areas, archaeology, and the wider historic environment.
  • Handle planning and heritage casework effectively, ensuring that all aspects of planning applications and listed building consents are dealt with efficiently.
  • Interpret and apply up-to-date planning policy and legislation, providing expert advice to stakeholders.
  • Discuss and explain proposals with a wide range of individuals and representative bodies, including Members, Parish Councils, and other stakeholders.
  • Assess the planning merits of alleged breaches of planning control and provide advice to planning enforcement colleagues.
  • Prepare and present Local Planning Authority evidence for written representations and informal hearing planning appeals.

Requirements

  • Experience of dealing with all aspects of planning applications and/or listed building consents in a local government planning environment.
  • Experience of dealing with schemes to alter and repair buildings, with the ability to demonstrate involvement in dealing with issues of new design in historic areas.
  • Experience of interpreting and applying up-to-date planning policy and legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to discuss and explain proposals with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess the planning merits of alleged breaches of planning control.
  • Proficiency in the use of IT programs, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
