About the Role


We are seeking an experienced and skilled Endocrine Nurse Specialist to join our team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert care to patients with endocrine conditions, including complex cases.



Key Responsibilities


The Endocrine Nurse Specialist will work as a senior member of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Multi-Disciplinary Team, providing endocrinology nursing expertise to patients and health care professionals across Aintree hospital site and primary care. They will be seen as a clinical expert in the area of endocrinology and play an integral role in the service development and quality initiatives relating to the expanding endocrine service.



Clinical Duties


The Endocrine Nurse Specialist will assess, plan, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate evidence-based endocrinology care in conjunction with relevant health care professionals. They will also be responsible for autonomously assessing, triaging and diagnosing endocrine conditions, reviewing patients with longstanding endocrine conditions, including complex patients.



Leadership and Development


The Endocrine Nurse Specialist will lead and participate in the development and dissemination of evidence-based guidelines, standards and protocols as required. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining required specialist clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of patients with endocrine and related conditions.



Education and Training


The Endocrine Nurse Specialist will provide specialist knowledge, advice and support to colleagues, health care professionals, patients, carers and relatives around endocrine related conditions. They will also be responsible for leading and contributing to the multidisciplinary education and training provision/programme for health care professionals involved in caring for patients with endocrinology.



Research, Audit and Governance


The Endocrine Nurse Specialist will adhere to policies, procedures and protocols relevant to endocrinology, demonstrating understanding of evidence-based care, including where to obtain evidence. They will also be responsible for conducting/participating in national and local audit related to endocrinology, evaluating and implementing best practice as appropriate.



Person Specification


We are looking for an experienced and skilled Endocrine Nurse Specialist with a broad range of clinical experience and specific experience within Endocrinology. The successful candidate will have a degree (or equivalent experience) and be registered with the NMC. They will also have a willingness to undertake the non-medical prescribing course (V300) and have experience in service development and implementation of change.
