About the Role
This is a 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) post including on call duties and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA's). With mutual agreement, it can be extended to 12 PAs. The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital offers extensive elective and emergency theatre activity, requiring wide experience in general anaesthesia for various surgical disciplines. Full specialist registration with the GMC and possession of the FRCA (or equivalent) are essential requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- Participate in the general on call anaesthesia service covering both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.
- Assist the lead in developing general anaesthesia services according to the job plan.
- Take lead in decision making about the suitability of high-risk patients.
- Manage general anaesthetic services, ensuring safe and timely delivery, benefiting patients and the organisation.
- Develop and showcase general anaesthesia modules in line with the RCoA curriculum.
- Develop local services and practice using quality improvement projects.
- Provide anaesthetic services according to the job plan and take ongoing responsibility for patients under care.
- Cooperate with other consultant anaesthetists to cover annual, study, and professional leave.
- Deputise for absent colleagues as far as practicable.
- Ensure adequate arrangements for hospital staff to contact you when necessary.
- Engage in planning and delivering developments in the Anaesthesia, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine Directorate for the Trust.
- Develop and maintain special skills and interests appropriate to the agreed overall development of anaesthesia skills.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- CCT in anaesthesia (within 6 months of interview) and FRCA or equivalent.
- At least 6 months advanced training in Regional Anaesthesia or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
- MRCP or equivalent.
- ALS certification (or equivalent).
Essential Experience
- Comprehensive experience in anaesthesia for DGH-type surgical specialties.
Desirable Experience
- Comprehensive, recent experience in anaesthesia relevant to job plan advanced airway/ regional blocks.
