About the Role

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Consultant to join their team. As a key member of the Emergency Medicine department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical teams, and contributing to the development of the service.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver first-class clinical care in Emergency Medicine, working collaboratively with other members of the team.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and teaching to junior medical and nursing staff.
  • Take an active role in the management and administrative workload of the department, contributing to planning and development of the service.
  • Develop and maintain specialist interests within the Emergency Medicine field, participating in the development of treatment protocols and guidelines.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties, participating in regular clinical meetings and postgraduate activities.
  • Participate in the on-call rota, ensuring that appropriate Emergency services are provided out of normal working hours.
  • Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty, including appraisal.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides acute hospital services to a population of around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. The Trust's main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, which are located 20 minutes' drive apart.

Job Requirements

  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • Ability to teach clinical skills, teach, and lecture on specialty.
  • Broad clinical experience within Emergency Medicine.
  • Recognised ability to work within and provide leadership in the MDT.
  • Commitment to clinical risk and understanding of Clinical Governance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other agencies.
