About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Newport & Central Primary Care Network. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our Pharmacists, Clinicians, and Administrative teams in delivering high-quality, innovative, and safe prescribing practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake patient-facing and patient-supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
- Carry out medicines optimisation tasks, supporting medication reviews and medicines reconciliation. Where required, utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
- Support the Clinical Pharmacist in Structured Medication Reviews (SMR) and organise necessary monitoring tests prior to SMR.
- Provide expertise to address patients' public health and social care needs, including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities.
- Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing locally.
Technical and Administrative
- Support the PCN multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes are being followed.
- Provide support on the legal, safe, and secure handling of medicines, including the implementation of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
- Develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals and multi-disciplinary team members to support integration across health and social care, including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care, and mental health.
- Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes, and other primary care settings.
Person Specification
We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician with excellent clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work unsupervised in an organised manner. The ideal candidate will have good interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence change and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications
- Any of the following: GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician, Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, BTEC/NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services (or equivalent) and be registered with the GPhC with evidence of CPD.

- Self-motivation, adaptability, and the ability to efficiently communicate around the Network.
