About the Role

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a full-time locum consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics to join their team. The successful candidate will be based at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and will be responsible for providing a specialty surgical service for patients with hip and knee disorders requiring hip and knee arthroplasty and revision surgery.

Main Responsibilities

The appointee will participate in a 1:8 on-call emergency rota for patients with musculo-skeletal trauma and will be involved in teaching medical staff and students from Keele University. The consultant will also be responsible for developing enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.

The trust's catchment area includes some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, and the main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury.

Person Specification

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty, and in particular with musculoskeletal disorders of the lower limb
  • Subspecialty expertise in lower limb Surgery
  • Ability to teach clinical skills, teach and lecture on speciality
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
