Orthopaedic Consultant with Hand Surgery Expertise

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Orthopaedic Consultant with a special interest in Hand and Wrist Surgery to join our team at Northampton General Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in the Trauma On-call service, operating lists, ward rounds, and outpatient clinics. A strong background in Hand and Wrist Surgery is essential, with evidence of fellowship training and a wide range of experience in the field.
Main Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities:
- Participation in the Trauma On-call service
- Operation lists, both Elective and Trauma
- Regular ward rounds
- Outpatient clinics, both Elective and Trauma
- A Specialist interest in Hand and Wrist Surgery
- Presenting monthly mortality & morbidity statistics and participating in departmental teaching meetings
- Supervision and training middle grade
- Be prepared to participate in management duties within the department and the Trust

Person Specification
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Full Registration with the GMC
- Possession of FRCS (Tr+Orth)
- On specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Evidence of fellowship in Hand/Wrist Surgery
- Wide range of experience in Hand/Wrist Surgery
- Broad range of experience in general trauma provision
Teaching and Clinical Governance
The successful candidate will have evidence of teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level and audit participation. A post-graduate qualification in Education is desirable.
Management
The successful candidate will have evidence of management of a clinical service and a management qualification is desirable.
Research
The successful candidate will have evidence of research relevant to Trauma and Orthopaedics, specifically hand and wrist surgery, and publications in Trauma and Orthopaedics. A Higher Research Degree is desirable.
