About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate for an exciting opportunity to undergo an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The 4-year apprenticeship combines work-based training alongside experienced engineering technicians in the Radiation Physics mechanical workshop at Charing Cross Hospital, with fully funded block-release study at a local college.

As a member of the mechanical engineering workshop team, you will work alongside the electronics engineers to maintain, repair and service linear accelerator treatment machines.

Main Responsibilities

  • The Mechanical Workshop Apprenticeship scheme is a 4-year training programme which combines on-the-job training with academic study.
  • The post-holder will undertake a BTEC National Diploma training to a Level 3 Engineering Technician Standard.
  • The post-holder will be a trainee member of the team, which is responsible for undertaking the design, development and manufacture of complex new medical devices and research equipment.
  • The post-holder will assist in carrying out the Planned Preventative Maintenance, servicing and repair of a range of complex, patient-critical radiotherapy equipment.
  • The post-holder will receive internal training from the team of mechanical and electronics engineers, in addition to their academic training.
