Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

University of Cambridge invites applications for a 4-year PhD studentship focused on exploring the chemical biology mechanisms underlying genome function and epigenetics. This research position is ideal for individuals interested in developing and applying advanced technologies in chemical biology, molecular biophysics, structural biology, and genomics.

Key research areas include:

  • DNA and RNA Secondary Structure Investigation: Elucidating the role of G-quadruplexes (G4s) in controlling biological processes, particularly in cancer.
  • Small Molecule Binding Mapping: Developing techniques to identify where small molecules bind to DNA and RNA, and associated proteins.
  • Base Modification Investigation: Exploring the effects of base modifications on DNA structure, protein-DNA interactions, and nucleosome assembly.

The studentship will be based in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, with collaborative interactions with the CRUK Cambridge Institute. A maintenance grant and tuition fees at the UK rate will be provided, commencing in October 2025. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in organic chemistry and/or chemical biology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
