Uncovering DNA Secrets
We are seeking a talented individual to contribute to our team's research on the chemical biology of the genome and epigenome for a 4-year PhD studentship.
Project Overview:This project combines chemistry and biology to explore fundamental mechanisms of genome function. You will work on investigating DNA (and RNA) secondary structures, small molecule binding, and base modifications in nucleic acids.
Key Responsibilities:- Developing Techniques:
You will develop and apply cutting-edge technologies in chemical biology, molecular biophysics, structural biology, and genomics.
- Collaboration:
Primarily based in the Balasubramanian lab at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, you will collaborate with the CRUK Cambridge Institute.
- Research Objectives:
Your research will focus on understanding the role of DNA and RNA secondary structures, small molecule binding, and base modifications in nucleic acids.
The studentship commences in October 2025 and provides a maintenance grant and tuition fees at the UK rate. We may support outstanding overseas students in their application for a suitable scholarship.
Compensation:The estimated annual salary is £25,777 - £31,982 per annum.

Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full timeSecreted extra-organismal RBPs have been recently discovered in honeybees and Listeria monocytogenes. In both instances, the RBP stabilises RNA outside the organism it originated from to interact with - and affect another organism. Given their recent discovery, it is unknown how widespread and diverse the roles of extra-organismal RBPs are. Uncovering the...
