Job Title: Middle East and Africa News Editor

The Financial Times is seeking an experienced news editor to lead our coverage of the Middle East and Africa region. As a key member of our World News Desk, you will be responsible for overseeing the editorial direction of our coverage, working closely with our team of reporters and editors to deliver high-quality, in-depth reporting on the region's most important stories.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Commission and edit stories on a wide range of topics, from politics and economics to business and culture
  • Work closely with our reporters and editors to develop and implement editorial strategies for the region
  • Collaborate with other teams across the organization to ensure seamless coverage of major events and breaking news
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key sources and contacts in the region
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the region and identify opportunities for in-depth reporting
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a news editor or senior journalist, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality reporting
  • Deep knowledge of the Middle East and Africa region, including its politics, economies, and cultures
  • Excellent editorial judgment and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team of reporters and editors
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex problems
