About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our friendly and supportive team at the Newbury Older Peoples Mental Health Service and Memory Clinic.

As an Assistant Psychologist, you will play a key role in co-ordinating and undertaking evidence-based group work for people with dementia, including Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. You will also contribute to formulation, neuropsychological assessments, and psychological interventions under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

You will also spend a day a week as a research assistant with the BHFT Research Team, promoting engagement with research amongst Memory Clinic patients. You will be working primarily on studies with people with dementia, identifying, recruiting, and supporting patients through the research process, and collecting and managing accurate data.

We offer regular individual supervision, opportunities for continuing professional development, and attendance at trust-wide psychology meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate and assist in the development and facilitation of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) groups for people with dementia
  • Complete brief assessments of clients to determine suitability for CST
  • Manage a large database of referrals and carry out audits
  • Assist in psychological assessments, formulation, and intervention under Clinical Psychologist supervision
  • Attend and contribute to MDT and service/Trust meetings as appropriate
  • Contribute to training and support of other staff
  • Assist in design and implementation of audit/research projects
  • Receive regular clinical supervision as per professional practice guidelines
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation
  • Participate in training and opportunities for continuing professional development
  • Have working knowledge of relevant research protocols, informed consent process, legislation, HRA guidance, and Mental Capacity Act
  • Identify participants for NIHR portfolio studies and obtain informed consent
  • Promote research activities
  • Provide information and support to research participants
  • Adhere to Good Clinical Practice and research governance standards
  • Administer protocol-based assessments of cognitive function, self-report measures, rating scales, observations, and semi-structured interviews
  • Contribute to development of dissemination materials
  • Assist in monitoring and recording recruitment

Requirements
  • Upper 2:1 undergraduate degree which confers eligibility for Graduate Basis of Registration with the British Psychological Society
  • Have a passion and understanding for working with older people and individuals with dementia
  • Previous experience of working in a health or social care setting with people who are experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Be a car driver with a vehicle for work, as this role will involve visiting clients in the community
