About the Role
We are seeking an experienced mammal trapper to join our team in Orkney, Scotland. The successful candidate will be based on the Orkney Islands and work predominantly in the field, helping to deliver the stoat eradication operation for the Orkney Native Wildlife Project.
The role involves checking, cleaning, and rebaiting DOC200 kill traps across a network of over 7,000 traps, as well as trap deployment and removal. The ideal candidate will have excellent organisation and communication skills, and be able to work in extreme conditions for prolonged periods.
Responsibilities:
- Checking, cleaning, and rebaiting DOC200 kill traps as part of a team.
- Trap deployment and removal.
- Ensuring that all necessary trap field and maintenance data are collected and captured into a database.
- Assisting in stoat monitoring.
What We Need From You:
- An understanding of the impact of invasive non-native species and how to manage their populations appropriately for the benefit of native wildlife.
- Able to work in extreme conditions, for prolonged periods in the field, including lone working in a variety of challenging terrains.
- Practical recording skills of a standard that provides the highest quality data.
- Demonstrable, transferable identification and practical field skills appropriate to the post.
- A full driver's licence or ability to access remote locations without public transport.
The salary for this role is estimated at £29,200 per annum, plus benefits. We reserve the right to extend or make these roles permanent. Closing date: Apply HERE.
