About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team as a Band 6 Practitioner. This is a fixed-term vacancy to cover maternity leave, and we welcome applications from experienced allied health professionals or nurses.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in community settings across Dorset, delivering Pulmonary Rehabilitation services. We have close links with respiratory and therapy teams in Dorset County Hospital, Primary Care Networks, and have well-established MDT support.

Dorset County Hospital is the lead provider for Pulmonary Rehabilitation in the County, and we work in close collaboration with Dorset Healthcare, running our services from a range of community venues. We are committed to achieving national accreditation and participating in the national audit program for Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

As a Band 6 Practitioner, you will be professionally and legally accountable for a specialized patient caseload, deciding priorities for your work area without direct supervision. You will assess patients' suitability to join the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program and work at an advanced level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work at an advanced level, professionally and legally accountable for a specialized patient caseload.
  • Assess patients' suitability to join the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program.
  • Car driver is essential.

Person Specification

  • Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, or Nursing.
  • Undertaken a range of relevant postgraduate courses.
  • Wide-ranging rotational physiotherapy/occupational therapy or nursing experience at Band 5 level, including experience in the specialist area.
  • Experience of participating in audit and evidence-based projects.
  • Evidence of actively participating in in-service training and MDT groups, and evaluating effectiveness of training.
  • Knowledge of evidenced-based practice pertaining to the specialist area of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of national guidelines and standards relevant to the specialist area of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
  • Work across sites in a flexible manner and adapt to changing environments.
  • Previous experience at Band 6 level.
  • Experience of supervision and appraisal of Therapy/Nursing staff and students, with the ability to give constructive feedback.
  • Able to provide a high standard of clear, concise, written and verbal reports in English.
  • IT skills, including using hospital databases, word processing, Excel, email, and PowerPoint.

Contract and Benefits

This is a fixed-term contract for 1 year, with the possibility of extension. We offer a competitive salary of £37,338 to £44,962 per annum, pro rata. We also offer a range of benefits, including regular in-house training and access to external courses, opportunities for project work and service improvement, and experience in managerial skills through appraisal and supervision of junior staff and students.
