Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist I to join our team at ZipRecruiter. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist I, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely laboratory testing results to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with laboratory customers in a professional and courteous manner, responding to inquiries and providing information as needed.
  • Perform routine and STAT laboratory analytical methods, ensuring accuracy and precision in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results, and follow established protocols for follow-up and resolution.
  • Independently perform moderately complex and waived tests, and perform high complexity testing under the supervision of a Medical Technologist or with result review by a Supervisor or Manager.
  • Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment, prioritizing tasks to accommodate department needs and accepting authority as needed.
  • Perform and document quality control according to established protocols, and inform supervisory personnel and/or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
  • Assist with the training and orienting of new employees and students, using established competency and workstation operational guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain supplies for laboratory functions, using materials and reagents in a cost-effective manner.
  • Process specimens for analysis, entering accurate patient demographic information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system.
  • Honor confidentiality of patient information, following all compliance guidelines.
  • Adhere to all established laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, methods, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and personnel policies.
  • Follow all biohazard, chemical, and sharps safety guidelines, maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Maintain instruments according to procedural calibrations, quality control, and daily maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university and successful completion of a CAHEA-accredited Medical Technology program.
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and ASCP categorical certification.
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and at least two years of experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
  • OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA 88 and PA Bureau of Laboratories for technologists performing high complexity testing.
  • Prefer one year of experience in a hospital laboratory.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification.
  • AMT Medical Technologists (MT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology certification.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
Clearance Requirements

Clearances must be dated within 90 days.
