North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to enhance our team of Consultant Gastroenterologists and Gastrointestinal surgeons, providing a comprehensive digestive health service across the region.
The North Cumbria GI Service represents a modern, integrated department that merges gastroenterology and endoscopy services, along with upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and emergency GI surgical care.
As part of our service transformation and the implementation of our acute medical care model, we anticipate future configurations will prioritize complex inpatient work at designated sites, while elective outpatient services, including endoscopy and outpatient clinics, will be managed collaboratively by our team.
While each appointee will have a primary base unit, all team members are expected to contribute to the overall gastroenterology service across the Trust.
The department features two dedicated GI wards within the Cumberland Infirmary for inpatient care, with plans for all GI services to be co-located in the near future. Our facilities include a specialized 3-room endoscopy unit at the Cumberland Infirmary and a new endoscopy unit at another facility, equipped with two dedicated rooms in a state-of-the-art environment.
Additionally, we have a specialist GI physiology laboratory at both locations. The Trust has recently secured funding for a new 5-room Endoscopy Unit, which is set to open in the future.
