About the Role

As a Senior Programme Manager at NIHR, you will play a key role in leading the commissioning of research projects and overseeing the portfolio of research programmes. You will work collaboratively with other senior programme managers to contribute to the strategic and operational development and management of the NIHR's research programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the commissioning of research projects and oversee the portfolio of research programmes.
  • Contribute to and lead strategic programme and departmental initiatives that relate to the three research programmes.
  • Draft and issue guidelines, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Attend committee meetings in a supervisory capacity and provide advice when required.
  • Represent NIHR in cross-cutting working groups as appropriate.
  • Liaise regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including attending, organising, and leading meetings.
  • Identify enhancements to working practices and define, implement, and support processes to deliver operational excellence.
  • Develop and maintain excellent professional relationships with other teams, applicants, and award holders.
  • Operationalise ad-hoc special project work and assist in the preparation of regular programme reports and papers.
  • Line manage up to three members of staff.
  • Monitor the quality and timelines of the work of Research Programme Managers.
What You Will Bring

To be successful in this role, you will need a degree in biomedical, health, or social sciences, experience of working in a research management environment, and a track record in successful management of projects and programmes. You will also need to be able to think strategically, interpret complex information, and have excellent planning and organisational skills.
