Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative team as a Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. As a key member of the team, you will have a positive and supportive impact on the patient and loved one's journey during critical care and their recovery period.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the patient's journey from admission to critical care to the recovery phase.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to loved ones and patients along their recovery pathway.
  • Engage with psychologists, AHPs, and clinicians to facilitate follow-up clinics and provide specialist education and training for staff and students.
  • Lead clinical audits and present findings at trust, regional, and national levels.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse educated to Degree level or willingness to undertake.
  • Relevant post-registration qualification in Critical Care.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • MSc.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Advanced communication skills.

Essential Experience:

  • At least 6 months' experience as a band 6 in adult Critical Care.
  • An interest in patient recovery from critical care illness.
  • Experience of initiating change or leading on a project.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of formal or informal teaching.
  • Leading on or part of a team that has introduced an improvement that impacted the patient's pathway post CC illness.
  • Part of an SIP or Audit that changed patient care or experience.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the impact of CC illness post hospital care.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance.
  • Understanding of patient pathways and its complexities.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • The importance of debrief.
  • Knowledge of peer review and support.

Essential Skills:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working as an integral member of a small team.
  • Adaptable to changing situations due to workload and colleagues' needs.

Desirable Skills:

  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Counselling skills.
  • Team leading.
