Play Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Play Worker to join our team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. As a Play Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality play opportunities for children and young people, promoting their wellbeing and enhancing their hospital experience.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of child development and be able to provide creative and engaging play activities that cater to the diverse needs of our patients. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure that all children and young people have access to play opportunities that reflect their individual needs and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and facilitate play sessions for individual and groups of children and young people.
- Plan and adapt play activities to meet the needs of children and young people, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
- Collaborate with parents and carers to engage them in play activities with their child.
- Develop and maintain a range of play activities that promote independence, wellbeing, and social skills.
- Work flexibly across the Play team to ensure seamless delivery of play services.
- Communicate effectively with children, families, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure a cohesive approach to care.

Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will have:
- A strong understanding of child development and play theory.
- Experience of working with children and young people in a play or education setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Basic knowledge of confidentiality and data protection.
The following qualifications and skills are desirable:
- NVQ, CACHE, NNEB (Level 3) in Child Care/Play Work or Diploma in Children and Young Peoples Workforce or Early Childhood Studies (BA).
- Makaton or other communication method.
- Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
