About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Design Engineer to join our team in Chelmsford or Cambridge. As a key member of our highway design team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs and specifications in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs using AutoCAD and Civil3D models, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practices.
  • Deliver work packages, including managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams, to meet project deadlines and budgets.
  • Provide technical input to project managers, including planning, programming, and cost estimation.
  • Check, certify, and authorize designs, documents, approvals, and reports, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Manage graduate engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to deliver schemes and projects, ensuring client satisfaction and project success.
  • Mentor and upskill junior staff, helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports, and detailed designs, as well as contract documents, to support project delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines to provide an integrated service to clients, seeking innovative solutions to achieve best value.
  • Provide technical support and leadership as required, ensuring the successful delivery of projects.

Requirements

  • A BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
  • Demonstrable experience in highway design, working in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and other relevant standards and best practices.
  • An understanding of commercial aspects of project delivery, including cost estimation and budgeting.
  • An extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and procedures, including departures from standard.
  • NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
