About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Design Engineer to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality highway design projects that meet the needs of our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB).
  • Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D models (as and where applicable).
  • Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming.
  • Technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables, and cost estimation.
  • Accountable for checking, certifying, and authorising for issue: designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
  • Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages - coordinating engineering resources.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver schemes/projects.
  • Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
  • Be responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs and production of contract documents across a variety of projects.
  • Working together with the team and other disciplines in providing an integrated service to clients.
  • Help seek innovative solutions in achieving best value in delivering our services.
  • Provide technical support and leadership where required.

Requirements

  • A BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
  • Demonstrable and significant experience in highway design working in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and other standards/best practice guidance.
  • An understanding of the commercial aspects of project delivery.
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
  • NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
