Job Title: Child and Family Advocate

About the Role:

VACCA is committed to empowering children and young people to overcome the challenges they face. As a Child and Family Advocate, you will be part of a dedicated team that provides trauma-informed care and support to those who need it most.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with children and young people to develop positive relationships and address trauma-based responses.
  • Advocate for decisions that prioritize the child's best interests, considering their connection to family, community, and culture.
  • Collaborate with child protection workers, schools, police, and Aboriginal and mainstream organizations to ensure the child's safety and well-being.
  • Manage risk assessments, safety planning, and case notes to ensure effective service delivery.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in child and family services, particularly with Aboriginal families.
  • Case management experience, preferably with young people in Out of Home Care.
  • Ability to respond therapeutically to Aboriginal children's pain-based behaviors, understanding the impact of trauma and disrupted attachment.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Qualification in Community Services, Youth Services, Social Work, or related field.
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination, Working with Children's Check, and Victorian Driver Licence.
