Job Description: Compliance and Safety Specialist

Aker Solutions ASA is looking for a Compliance and Safety Specialist to join our team in the UK Consultancy department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and technical safety in the delivery of electrical, instrumentation, control, and telecom systems across the Oil and Gas and New Energies markets.

About the Role:

The Compliance and Safety Specialist will work closely with our team to identify, interpret, and educate teams on regulatory standards for the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy sectors. This includes monitoring and implementing updates as needed, leading electrical project scoping, electrification assessments, and optimization studies focused on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and hydrogen production systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Standards & Compliance: Identify, interpret, and educate teams on regulatory standards for the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy sectors; monitor and implement updates as needed.
  • Project Leadership: Lead electrical project scoping, electrification assessments, and optimization studies focused on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and hydrogen production systems.
  • Design & Optimization: Provide expert support in FEED design, optimization studies, lifecycle costing, and analysis, while maintaining compliance and best practices.
  • Compliance Management: Oversee compliant design development, validation, verification, and certification throughout the project lifecycle, from design to commissioning.
  • Design Reviews & Safety Studies: Lead and participate in design reviews (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP), safety studies, and provide technical input for regulatory compliance.
  • Collaboration & Standardization: Collaborate with certification and verification agencies; drive standardization of E&I delivery and technical requirements for HVDC and Oil & Gas projects.
  • SIL & Ex Compliance: Support and oversee SIL compliance (IEC 61508), including documentation and assessments, and lead Ex compliance assessments for onshore and offshore projects.
  • Expert Witness & Due Diligence: Serve as a due diligence and expert witness specialist, ensuring compliance and regulatory adherence in all relevant areas.

Requirements:

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field; Chartered Engineer status; certified in SIL compliance (IEC 61511, IEC 61508) and good understanding with respect to Ex compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Experience: Extensive experience in regulatory compliance, technical safety engineering, and verification services for Oil & Gas facilities, with a deep understanding of UK, EU, and Australian offshore legislative requirements.
  • E&I Expertise: Proficiency in E&I activities, including power systems, detection systems, CAE, shutdown hierarchy, emergency lighting, cybersecurity, and navaids.
  • Onshore Grid Infrastructure: Expertise in onshore grid infrastructure, such as substations and cables, and regulatory requirements for HVDC projects.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multi-company project deliveries effectively.
  • Relationship Building: Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships with business and functional leaders.
  • Integrity & Ethics: High standards of personal integrity and ethics.
  • Project Management & Communication: Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, work independently, and explain complex topics to diverse stakeholders.

Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 per annum
