Job Summary

The post-holder will be an experienced, knowledgeable practitioner who provides clinically based practice development and education to the non-medical workforce. Clinical education support for all 'learners at the bedside' is a substantial part of this role. Specific education interventions will be provided and may be co-developed with the senior practice development and education team. They will also assist in coordinating the delivery and evaluation of training. The clinical educator is key to ensuring training is grounded in good practice and will be involved in the education element of clinical governance and quality assurance.

Main Duties
  • Act as an exemplary role model for best clinical practice and Trust values
  • Work alongside learners to facilitate their independent learning
  • Work to an agreed job plan to maximise education delivery to support staff and patient safety/experience
  • Manage their own time to ensure a balance between clinical education and education administrative activities
  • Actively promote and contribute to an inter-professional learning environment
  • Deliver education programmes at a divisional level and where required cross divisionally in support of organisational priorities
  • Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams
  • Assist in anticipating and addressing the educational needs of the service
  • Work across boundaries to proactively develop and sustain partnerships
  • Participate in audit, service improvement and research projects relevant to the clinical educator role

Job Responsibilities

Person Specification
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1 of the register) / Registered Allied Health Professional
  • UK Health related recognised Degree, relevant to post
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of NMC / HCPC revalidation
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge appropriate to the clinical area or practice development and education
  • Familiar with and able to effectively use common office software suites (e.g. MS Office)
  • Evidence of experience and qualifications in supervising and assessing colleagues and learners
  • Evidence of study at level 7
  • Demonstrates the ability to put patients at the heart of what they do and meet differing needs by fostering a spirit of support, integrity, respect and teamwork
  • Shows pride in the quality of care they provide for patients and provides evidence of learning from both successes and setbacks
  • Able to identify high standards of health care and demonstrate the proven capacity to champion change and innovation that delivers these high standards
  • Evidences the ability to proactively support and develop colleagues in the delivery of care commensurate with Trust values and behaviours
  • Able to identify the role of education in fulfilling these values and demonstrates a passion for education in this context
  • Articulate and knowledgeable regarding skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice

  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
