About the Role

The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Safety Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Estates and Facilities leadership team, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of all fire safety services across our sites.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Trust's fire compliance functions, ensuring compliance with relevant statutory and NHS requirements.
  • Lead projects aimed at maintaining and improving our fire safety equipment, including budget management for fire safety compliance works and fire safety remedial works.
  • Oversee the management of the Trust workforce in critical areas, including fire safety training, fire evacuation strategy, fire safety management, and fire safety asset management.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and review operational policies, identifying new and emerging risks and addressing them.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure that all fire-related implications are considered as part of any service reconfiguration schemes.

Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety & Risk Management.
  • Significant advanced practical knowledge and experience in a technical fire safety role, with a strong element of achieving statutory compliance.
  • A strong understanding of HTM guidance, CLG guidance, and Building Regulations guidance and British Standards.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Town Planning, Building Regulations, Management of Asbestos, Health and Safety at work, and Disability Discrimination Act.
  • Experience at a senior level in the management of fire safety in a complex organisation.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • City and Guilds in Delivering Learning (or PTTLLS), IOSH / NEBOSH / ROSPA Qualification in accident / incident investigation.
  • Relevant industry qualification (IFE, FPA, FIA, BRE or similar).
  • Judgment and analytical abilities, negotiation, presentation, organisational and planning, report writing, excellent communication, and motivation skills.
