About the Role

University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a seasoned policy and public affairs professional to join our expanding Policy and Advocacy team as a Strategic Creative Industries Policy Lead.

The successful candidate will leverage their political acumen and policy influencing skills to shape UAL's policy and public affairs strategy, driving thought leadership in the Creative Industries.

This newly created role will focus on developing the team's Creative Industries policy brief, managing key aspects of our policy priorities, including:

  • Creative Industries growth, encompassing collaboration with the Government on the industrial strategy and its implications for the creative sector.
  • AI and the Creative Industries, exploring opportunities and challenges.
  • Skill gaps in the Creative Industries, identifying solutions to address this issue.
  • Green and future skills agendas, driving innovation and sustainability.
  • The UK as a creative superpower, positioning UAL as a leader in this area.

The appointed individual will also establish and develop relationships with key external stakeholders, including MPs, Peers, Civil Servants, and Special Advisers, while assisting senior staff and the academic community with their engagement with policymakers.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage the team's Creative Industries policy brief, ensuring alignment with UAL's strategic objectives.

Collaborate with key members of the Policy and Advocacy team to drive the development of UAL's policy and public affairs strategy.

Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including MPs, Peers, Civil Servants, and Special Advisers.

Assist senior staff and the wider academic community in engaging with policymakers, providing expert advice and support.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need experience in public policy campaigns and policy brief management. You should also possess experience in supporting senior members of staff, including formulating responses to government consultations, writing policy reports and briefings, horizon scanning, monitoring, and conducting successful meetings.

You will demonstrate sound political judgement, an excellent understanding of the UK political system and public policy environment in related fields, along with knowledge of the Creative Industries and policy, and a wider understanding of higher education and the creative economy.
