Kitchen Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Kitchen Manager to join our team at Hostelling Scotland. As a key member of our hospitality team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our kitchen, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate the work of kitchen colleagues to ensure a smooth workflow and adequate staffing levels.
- Train new kitchen colleagues on food preparation techniques, safety procedures, and kitchen guidelines.
- Oversee food production to maintain quality standards, consistency, taste, and portion size.
- Develop and update menus in collaboration with Hostel and Operations Managers, taking into consideration guest preferences and cost effectiveness.
- Place orders for food supplies and kitchen equipment, ensuring timely delivery, proper storage, and minimizing waste.
- Control food costs by monitoring stock levels, optimizing portion size, and promoting efficient use of resources.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, adhering to Cooksafe Guidelines.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as record keeping, budget management, colleague training, and performance reviews.
- Lead by example, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork and professionalism among colleagues.
- Take on the role of cook as required, preparing all food and drinks to standard.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices, with evidence of relevant qualification.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor the kitchen team.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to address operational challenges and resolve conflicts effectively.
