About the Role:
The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hostel's kitchen, ensuring a smooth workflow and adequate staffing levels at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of kitchen colleagues, cooks, and other staff to maintain a high level of service and quality.
- Train new kitchen colleagues on food preparation techniques, safety procedures, and kitchen guidelines to ensure a high level of competence.
- Oversee food production to maintain quality standards, consistency, taste, and portion size, ensuring that all dishes meet the highest standards.
- Develop and update menus in collaboration with the Hostel and Operations Managers, taking into consideration guest preferences and cost-effectiveness.
- Place orders for food supplies and kitchen equipment, ensuring timely delivery, proper storage, and minimal waste.
- Control food costs by monitoring stock levels, minimizing waste, and optimizing portion size to maintain a high level of efficiency.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, adhering to Cooksafe Guidelines and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Perform administrative tasks such as record-keeping, budget management, colleague training, and performance reviews to maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Lead by example, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork and professionalism among colleagues.
- Take on the role of cook as required, preparing all food and drinks to the highest standard.
Requirements:
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices, with evidence of relevant qualifications.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards, quality, and cleanliness.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor the kitchen team.
Desirable Qualities:
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to address operational challenges and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety and hygiene techniques.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
