Department/Role Overview

Ashurst's Global Risk & Compliance Department is seeking a highly skilled Conflicts & Ethics Team member to join our Glasgow-based team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for analyzing new clients and matters to identify and resolve legal and commercial conflicts of interest.

The ideal candidate will possess a clear and confident communication style, with a strong ability to work collaboratively with a dynamic and motivated team. A keen eye for detail and an interest in current affairs are essential. While a legal qualification is not necessary, problem-solving and professionalism are key.

Our team works closely with colleagues across Brisbane, London, Sydney, and New Zealand to provide conflicts clearance as our partners and clients pursue exciting deals globally. You will be part of a flexible working pattern, with core hours from 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of professional conduct rules applicable in the UK and across Ashurst's global practice areas.
  • Use research skills to identify and verify clients, third parties, and assets involved in new business requests.
  • Apply understanding of legal transactions to determine relationships between parties in a matter, and liaise with partners and lawyers if necessary.
  • Analyze information in the firm's conflict management systems and databases to identify potential conflicts of interest.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and Senior Management to find solutions to legal and commercial conflicts.
  • Record excellent phone notes, legal, and commercial analysis for compliance records.
  • Maintain high data quality within the conflicts database.

Other Tasks

  • Collaborate with function groups (Finance, HR, IT, Business Development) to tackle projects and solve problems.
  • Take advantage of continuous professional development opportunities and career development planning.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering training and compliance education sessions for the business.

Risk and Control

Ensure all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Interest in corporate multinational firm work.
  • Desire to understand the business and work closely as a team to solve problems.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong IT literacy and adaptability to new processes and technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage all levels of legal and support staff.
  • Discretion to maintain confidential information.

Education/Qualification (or relevant experience)

  • We welcome applicants from law and non-law disciplines.
  • Experience in a Compliance department at a law firm or large corporation is essential; specific Conflicts experience is preferable but not necessary.
