Role Overview:

The Conflicts Officer will play a critical role in our Global Risk & Compliance Department, working closely with our Conflicts & Ethics Team to identify and resolve potential conflicts of interest. This will involve analyzing new clients and matters, conducting thorough research, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of our services.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the rules of professional conduct applicable in the UK and across the countries in which Ashurst lawyers practice.
  • Utilize research skills to identify and verify clients, third parties, and assets involved in new business requests.
  • Apply understanding of legal transactions to determine relationships between parties involved in a particular matter, and liaise with partners and lawyers as necessary.
  • Analyze information in our conflict management systems and other databases to identify potential conflicts of interest.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and Senior Management to find solutions to potential legal and commercial conflicts.
  • Record accurate phone notes, legal, and commercial analysis to serve as a record of compliance for our insurers, regulators, and firm management.
  • Maintain the highest standards of data quality within the conflicts database.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong interest in the work undertaken by a corporate multinational firm.
  • Ability to understand the business and work closely as a team to solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong IT literacy and ability to adapt to new processes and technology quickly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to engage all levels of legal and support staff.
  • Discretion required to maintain confidential information appropriately.

Education/Qualification (or relevant experience):

  • We welcome applicants from both law and non-law disciplines.
  • Experience in a law firm or large corporation is preferable but not essential.
