About the role:

  • To deliver effective engagement, harm reduction, and recovery-focused interventions as required for service users presenting with a range of drug and alcohol and offending problems in both community and prison settings.
  • Provide an arrest referral service ensuring a seamless link between police/prison custody suites, prison, and the community.
  • Provide structured group work to clients, using evidence-based programs including SMART Recovery and Foundations of Recovery, as well as drug awareness sessions, harm reduction, and acupuncture.
  • Provide Assertive Outreach to service users' locale, homes, accommodation, and the local community when appropriate and support to appointments to ensure social inclusion and maximize engagement.
  • Provide Naloxone and Injecting Equipment Provision as part of a wider harm reduction package.
  • Manage referrals of individuals seen at the police station or referred by police or custody nurses.
  • Support peer initiatives and service user feedback.
  • Act as a link between the service and the recovery communities within Edinburgh.

About you:

  • Excellent understanding of drug and alcohol issues and experience of working in the criminal justice or related field.
  • An in-depth understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with drug misuse and offending in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability, and personal relationships.
  • The ability to work unsociable hours as and when required.
  • Be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with good IT skills.
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative with excellent time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Have a good working knowledge of mental health interventions, services, and good practice.
  • Be a supportive team player with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of professionals, agencies, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage change successfully in a way that prioritizes the needs of service users.
  • Understand the importance of information governance processes and commit to follow and apply all necessary safeguards.
  • Seek out learning opportunities to improve and broaden your professional knowledge and skills and to contribute and oversee the learning and development of others.
