Deputy Senior Employment Adviser, Band 5.

Main Duties

As a key member of the Employment Team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, the Deputy Senior Employment Adviser will play a crucial role in supporting individuals with mental health conditions to gain, return to, or retain employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing line management and supervision to Employment Advisers, ensuring they work effectively with clinicians to deliver employment support as part of the Greenwich Time to Talk service.
  • Managing and supervising a team of Employment Advisers to ensure they meet service requirements and deliver high-quality employment support to clients.
  • Collaborating with the Employment Lead to develop and deliver employment support services, including the development of good working relations with local employers, trade unions, and other organizations.
  • Providing non-clinical oversight of clients' progression through the service while accessing employment support.
  • Generating and presenting KPI-specific data to the Employment Lead for review and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

The Deputy Senior Employment Adviser will be responsible for:

  • Promoting the Employment Adviser in NHS Talking Therapies model and supporting the Employment Lead to work with senior clinicians to ensure the employment team is fully embedded in the Greenwich Time to Talk service.
  • Managing and supervising a team of Employment Advisers to ensure they meet service requirements and deliver high-quality employment support to clients.
  • Collaborating with the Employment Lead to develop and deliver employment support services, including the development of good working relations with local employers, trade unions, and other organizations.
  • Providing non-clinical oversight of clients' progression through the service while accessing employment support.
  • Generating and presenting KPI-specific data to the Employment Lead for review and evaluation.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience to degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience of line management and supervision.
  • Training in vocational work, careers advice, and job retention.
  • Significant experience of providing vocational/employment support.
  • Understanding of the employment needs, barriers, and difficulties faced by people with mental health conditions.
  • Experience of management and administration of data and records relating to the delivery of agreed outcomes of employment programs.
  • Experience of working in a service where agreed targets are in place, demonstrating specific outcomes.
  • Experience of quality assuring own work and the work of the team to both contract and organizational standards.

Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Significant understanding of return-to-work planning.
  • Awareness of the secondary effects on the individual that could be caused by their mental health experience.
  • Ability to assess individual strengths in relation to employment.
  • IT literacy, including Word and Excel, with excellent written skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling good working relationships with service users and partners within and external to the Trust.

Working Environment

The Deputy Senior Employment Adviser will work in a fast-paced environment, reporting directly to the Employment Lead. The successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively with the Employment Team, clients, clinicians, and therapists to deliver high-quality employment support services.
