Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at the National Nuclear Laboratory. As a Radiation Protection Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our employees and the public by providing expert advice on radiological protection.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in radiation protection and a proven track record of providing high-quality advice and support. You will work closely with our team to develop and implement radiation protection strategies and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice on radiological protection to support the development and implementation of radiation protection strategies.
  • Conduct radiation surveys and assessments to identify potential hazards and develop recommendations for mitigation.
  • Collaborate with other specialists to share findings and identify trends to develop a holistic picture of issues, concerns, good practice, and areas for improvement in EHSS&Q culture and performance.
  • Ensure that the specialist advice provided is proportionate and ensures compliance with NNL and external requirements.
  • Follow through on advice provided to ensure that it is implemented in a way that provides a suitable solution to the original problem identified.
  • Attend all training courses to ensure that you maintain a high standard within the role of Radiation Protection Specialist.
  • Provide an emergency response for radiation protection matters.
  • Report issues and behaviors which cause concern in the workplace.

Requirements:

  • City and Guilds Level 1 in Radiation Protection or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection.
  • Experience working as a Radiation Protection Specialist in a nuclear facility.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017, Environmental Permitting Regulations (amended) 2011 & Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial, and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).
