Job Title: Oncology Nurse Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse Specialist to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with cancer.

Job Summary:
  • Work as an expert oncology nurse within our well-established and respected specialist area.
  • Manage a caseload of patients effectively by agreed protocols and pathways of care.
  • Advise admitting teams on appropriate management of acute oncology presentations.
  • Contribute to the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
  • Be an integral part of our established AOS/CUP team, maintaining excellent communication to support coordinated care.
  • Link with healthcare teams to increase knowledge and facilitate care of this group of people in the community.
  • Be accessible and available to give advice and clinical expertise to health professionals and patients on the CUP pathway and within the AOS service.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Work towards achieving AOS Level 2 ACCENT passport competency.
  • Assist in the delivery of an advanced specialist nursing service for people with specialist needs.
  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals about oncology advice.
  • Ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • Participate in the process of operational policies and review annually in accordance with national standards.
  • Be actively involved in in-patient care, liaising with ward staff to ensure high-quality nursing care.
  • Attend A&E for assessment of patients with potential AOS/CUP diagnoses and to offer key workers point of contact to oversee their care.
  • Ensure all patients receive appropriate follow-up and that relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment and care.
