Position Overview

We are pleased to present an opportunity for a Band 8a Oncology Nurse Specialist within our dedicated Oncology Nursing team. This role is a fixed-term contract covering maternity leave.

We are looking for a motivated Nurse Specialist with a background in managing patients receiving Systematic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) to join our Oncology Nursing team. The position involves collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of exceptional care in the oncology environment.

The Oncology Nurse Specialist role encompasses various responsibilities, including advanced clinical practice, education, leadership, management, audit, and research. The successful candidate will provide specialized nursing services, delivering comprehensive, patient-centered, and compassionate care for oncology patients.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

- The primary focus of this role is to work independently in assessing and managing patients undergoing SACT at our Cancer Centres.

- Lead the Nurse-Led GI Clinic, responsible for reviewing follow-up patients receiving SACT, while maintaining high standards of nursing care through effective planning, coordination, and delivery of the clinic.

Leadership and Education

- Provide expert knowledge and guidance to nursing teams across both Cancer Centres.

- Develop and lead educational initiatives in collaboration with the Oncology Nurse Consultant, Matron, and Head of Nursing for Oncology.

- Conduct audits and research to inform best practices and enhance patient outcomes.

Collaboration

- Engage with all key members of the multidisciplinary team, offering advice and support to colleagues.

- Contribute to the development and implementation of educational programs in partnership with the Oncology Nurse Consultant, Matron, and Head of Nursing for Oncology.

Key Qualifications

- First-level registered Nurse.

- Proven experience in managing patients undergoing SACT.

- Experience in clinic management.

Educational Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree in nursing, health, or a related field.

- A Master's level qualification or equivalent experience is preferred.

- Independent prescriber status or working towards it, along with advanced assessment qualifications.

- Qualification in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) or oncology nursing.
