Job Description

James Stevens Associates is delighted to be working with a unique Housing provider that is an extremely well-recognised UK charity.

The organisation is headquartered in South West London and Surrey and is now looking for a Governance and Risk Officer on a temp to perm basis.

Role:

Governance and Risk Officer (Hybrid)

Hybrid:

Remote with a view to work from office a couple of times a month dependent on committee/board meetings where required

Permanent

West London, Surrey & Ad Hoc London Locations

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Company Secretary/Head of Governance & Risk in ensuring that the charity complies with its legal and other regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate risk and governance (internal and external), administration activities, and support the Head of Governance & Risk to arrange and respond to contract and regulatory compliance and management of the charity's projects.
  • Be a central point of contact for day-to-day risk, insurance, and governance-related matters for staff and external stakeholders and deputise on behalf of the Head of Governance & Risk.
  • Support the Company Secretary/Head of Governance & Risk in the effective delivery of the Charity's governance arrangements.
  • Develop the assurance activities for regulatory compliance.
  • Support service departments with their operational risk management.
  • Support governance meetings and draft minutes.

The organisation is one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond, providing a safe place to stay for over 1,200 residents each night.

As well as accommodation, education, and training, the Association is focused on the transformation of communities through its Health & Wellbeing Centres, including an outdoor swimming pool and a wide range of Children, Youth & Family programmes including nurseries, after-school clubs, and soft play centres.

  • Working with the Company Secretary/Head of Governance & Risk, to promote high standards of corporate governance ensuring The Charity and its subsidiaries meet its legal, governance, and regulatory obligations.
  • Supporting services with their regulatory reporting.
  • Ensuring that the policy library is kept up to date on the Board Portal and Intranet.
  • Coordinating governance training records.
  • Compiling and tracking governance, risk, and compliance action plans and trackers.
  • Manage the digital records, title documents, and evidence that supports entries in the Charity's Assets & Liabilities and Contracts Registers.
  • Servicing governance meetings and taking minutes.
  • Gathering information and assembling data to support Regulatory returns.
  • Updating the governance pages of the Charity's website and Intranet so that corporate information, policies, and guidance are available in accordance with the Code of Governance.
Risk Management:
  • Supporting and developing the operational risk management activities of the Charity so that Services can recognise, record, monitor, and mitigate risks.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Governance & Risk, ensuring that there are robust processes and procedures that comply with statutory and regulatory requirements for probity, operations, and reporting.
  • Seeking assurance and evidence in support of controls and actions associated with approved strategic and operational risk registers.
  • Tracking progress and compliance with approved Internal Audit recommendations.
  • Maintaining all contact details and supplier information in the Business Continuity Plan so that it remains up to date.
