About the Role

The Deputy Chief Finance Officer will be responsible for the management of the finance team, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. This includes managing the final accounts process, monthly monitoring returns, and annual NHS financial planning.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the finance team, ensuring that teams maintain spend within planned levels and deliver income targets.
  • Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure that the department maintains monthly budget monitoring and supports service and team leads to manage expenditure within planned levels.
  • Support and oversee the training of finance and non-finance staff to equip them with the necessary skills to manage team-level budgets.

  • CCAB professional qualification

Knowledge / Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of NHS statutory returns
  • Significant experience of delivering robust budgets and forecasts
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS accounts and management of the external audit process
  • Cash management in an environment where cash-flow is a constant challenge
  • Expert knowledge of NHS financial policies and guidance/accounting standards
  • Experience of managing a team of diverse experience and abilities
