Targetjobs Hired is seeking an exceptional Materials Development Specialist to join our esteemed team. As a key member of our Materials Science area, you will contribute to the development of innovative materials and technologies that drive our mission.

About the Role

This 12-month placement offers a unique opportunity for university students to gain hands-on experience in materials development and analysis. You will work alongside subject matter experts, applying your knowledge and skills to develop novel materials and techniques.

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of foam and aerogel materials for laser target applications, including investigating alternative chemicals and analyzing materials properties.
  • Develop new inorganic materials for control triggered electrical breakdown, involving alternative material investigation, production testing, and electrical breakdown testing.
  • Apply analytical methodologies for qualitative and quantitative assessment of organic, inorganic, and metallic materials, including mechanical, elemental, spectroscopic, rheology, and thermal analyses.
  • Synthesize inert precursors for direct in-flow, high-purity synthesis of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), and evaluate batch and flow chemistry process techniques.
  • Perform experimentation and apply chemistry and/or materials science knowledge to understand material behavior in complex multi-material systems.
  • Support Engineering through analysis of test pieces using microscopic and analytical techniques, engaging with international partners.

Requirements

  • Possess a passion for materials development and/or analytical chemistry, with a degree in related fields such as Materials Science or Chemistry.
