Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde is committed to delivering high-quality care to its diverse population. As a leading healthcare provider, we strive to create an inclusive and supportive work environment that fosters growth and development.

This role is a fixed-term position for 12 months, providing an opportunity for experienced medical professionals to join our dynamic team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary Emergency Department. The department serves a large and culturally diverse city population, presenting a unique challenge and opportunity for consultants to make a meaningful impact.

The Emergency Department at Glasgow Royal Infirmary is a fast-paced clinical environment that requires a collaborative and adaptive approach. Our team delivers consultant-led care seven days a week, working closely with critical care, acute medicine, and other specialties. We have a strong middle-grade tier, consisting of SAS grade and higher specialty trainees, as well as experienced nursing colleagues and junior doctors.

We manage approximately 98,000 new presentations per year, making it a challenging yet rewarding environment for consultants to work in. The department prides itself on excellent working links with critical care and acute medicine, in-patient surgical teams, and obstetrics and gynaecology. We have established direct admission rights to all major specialties, allowing us to provide seamless care to patients.

The Emergency Department is renowned for its high standard of clinical learning, having consistently received recognition at national and local teaching excellence awards. We continue to evolve our education program to involve the entire clinical team, incorporating simulation training and employing clinical teaching fellows to support undergraduate and postgraduate education.

As a Trauma Unit within the West of Scotland Major Trauma Network, we have a trauma team established within the department, integrating emergency medicine teams with surgical and critical care specialties. We are active participants in local and multicentre research trials, with dedicated research staff and strong links to Glasgow University and the Clinical Research Facility.
