Job Purpose

The University of Glasgow is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Analyst to join its IT Service Operations division. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for resolving network-related issues, capturing network topology, and planning the migration of the College network infrastructure onto a new network.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in the operational delivery of IT services, ensuring a continuous and high-quality level of support while taking account of technological developments, institutional policy, and stakeholder needs.
  • Plan and support the implementation of upgrades and new service provision to maintain up-to-date and secure services.
  • Ensure that service provision meets the learning, teaching, and research needs of academic staff and students, as well as the needs of professional services staff.
  • Develop and maintain service documentation for staff and end-users, proactively identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support and maintain tools required for service operation and delivery.
  • Provide training and support to individuals or groups of staff on network-related topics.
  • Collaborate with other service managers to identify and escalate major issues and key development requirements.
  • Update and develop incident and request processes for network-related issues.
  • Provide regular reports and recommendations to IT Service Managers and the IT Leadership team.
  • Ensure network accessibility in schools with self-managed services, complying with relevant legislation and addressing audit recommendations.
  • Champion creative and innovative thinking, sharing best practices and staying up-to-date with industry knowledge and insights.
  • Provide timely and high-quality support and communications to network service users across all CoSE schools.
  • Attend and report to internal and external meetings as directed, representing the CoSE IT department and the University.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • A1: Demonstrated competencies in a similar role, acquired through necessary knowledge and skills.
  • A2: Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and their application in digital business support.
  • A3: Industry-wide profession qualification in the field of expertise.
  • A4: Cisco Certified Network Associate.
  • A5: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).

Desirable

  • B1: Qualifications in computing or service support.
  • B2: Experience in influencing behavior and culture change through process or methodology.
  • B3: Good understanding of technology as an enabler of change.

  • E5: Deep understanding of networking concepts and technologies.
  • E6: Deep understanding of core networking protocols.
  • E7: Experience improving network controls and management.
