Design Manager – Rail

Salary: $65,000 per annum
Location: Stratford

Pinnacle Recruitment Ltd is currently seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary technical team providing safe, practical and economic designs for the CP6 Anglia Framework.

This significant project involves maintaining and renewing the Anglia route for Network Rail, aligning with their ten-year plan. The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs (GRIP stages 1-8) within budget and programme constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of design packages and interfaces with external or in-house design teams for projects valued between $0.5m and $30m+
  • Lead a team of Assistant Design Managers and Design Coordinators
  • Represent the design department at internal and external meetings, and act as the focal point of contact in the absence of the Lead Designer
  • Liaise with other departments and project teams regarding design requirements
  • Conduct site visits when necessary
  • Allocate design tasks to individuals while maintaining responsibility for team performance
  • Ensure work adheres to company procedures and maintains a high level of professionalism
  • Identify chargeable work, prepare records of time spent, and ensure feedback on design work is collected and saved according to procedures
  • Conduct staff appraisals and identify development activities
  • Manage GRIP stage 1-4 design (concept through single option approved in principle)
  • Manage GRIP stage 5-8 design (detailed design, construction phase design support, and project close out)
  • Collaborate with the wider engineering team to ensure all designs are produced according to company procedures and Network Rail standards
  • Monitor and control cost and programme for design phases

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing designs within the railway environment and understanding of Network Rail's standards and processes
  • Effective management skills and confidence in dealing with staff, clients, figures, design issues, and programmes
  • Computer literacy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Microsoft Project
