We're seeking an exceptional Observations Research Scientist to contribute to our mission of making a difference to our planet.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month placement, developing your skills and knowledge in research and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery or application of scientific research to enhance the Met Office's capability, impact, or quality of its predictions, products, or advice.
  • Contribute to the Advancing Observations strategic theme through investigation and analysis of 3rd party and opportunistic sources of observations.
  • Work with observations scientists and engineers to understand new and existing forms of observation data and investigate quality control measures.
Requirements
  • You are able to draw on appropriate statistical and/or data science tools to analyse datasets and communicate the findings.
  • You can write code in python or a similar coding language, with a desire to enhance your skills and/or learn new languages as needed.
  • You have an interest in the collection and use of real-world environmental data and appreciation of the need for quality assurance.

The estimated salary for this role is £28,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
