Research Opportunities in Applied Linguistics and Bilingualism

Swansea University, in collaboration with the ESRC Wales Graduate School for the Social Sciences, invites applications for a PhD studentship in Applied Linguistics and Bilingualism. The project aims to investigate language-related areas of expertise in linguistics, psycho- and sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, psychology, sociology, language technology, and education.

Key Research Areas:

  • Second language acquisition
  • Structure, meaning, and use of language

Research Supervision:

Supervision can be held jointly with colleagues in Welsh, Modern Languages, Translation, Psychology, and Education, providing a unique opportunity to explore interdisciplinary research.

Research Facilities:

The PhD student will have access to the university's Eyetracking lab and specialist software, including subscriptions to gorilla. Additionally, they will become a member of the Language Research Centre, an interdisciplinary research centre encompassing language-related research across the university.

Studentship Details:

The ESRC studentship covers tuition fees and an annual tax-free living stipend in line with UKRI minimum rates. Successful applicants may also be eligible for a Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) and a Research Training Support Grant.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have qualifications or experience equal to an honours degree at a first or upper second-class level, or a master's from a UK academic research organisation.
