Cosmic Ray Effects on Electronics Industrial Placement Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Industrial Placement student in the field of Cosmic Ray Effects on Electronics. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that involves evaluating the characteristics of neutron sources and determining the best detection techniques for each instrument.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate the characteristics of neutron sources using different detection techniques
- Determine the best detection technique for each instrument
- Identify the effects of neutron irradiation on electronic technologies
- Develop intermediate and fast-neutron irradiation experiments on solid-state detectors and scintillators
- Develop fast-neutron irradiation experiments on electronics devices, collaborating with international users
- Perform fast neutron measurement for diagnostics on the ISIS source and potentially cross calibration with other worldwide neutron facilities
- Develop software for the analysis of data or the interface with detectors
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
- Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
- Able to commence employment in summer 2025
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Demonstrated ability and initiative in solving technical and scientific problems
- Enthusiasm, motivation, and initiative
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- High degree of responsibility, commitment, and reliability
