Job Description

FPG is seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Engineer to join their team in the Bristol region. This is an exciting opportunity for a Support Engineer with optical networking experience to join a leading telecommunications company that is expanding their operations team due to continued success and growth.

Please note - 5 days per week in the office & lab in the Bristol region.

The company specializes in a broad range of advanced networking technologies, including PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, Optical solutions, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless networks, and LTE-based systems. We also provide and manage SNMP-based network management systems across Linux, Solaris, and Windows platforms.

We are looking for a motivated and diligent individual who is eager to learn and stay updated with the latest developments in telecommunications as the industry continues to evolve.

Key Technical Skills

  1. Expertise in Optical Networks: In-depth knowledge of optical networks and related hardware.
  2. Proficiency with Test Equipment: Familiarity with a variety of testing tools such as optical power meters, light sources, BERTs, cellular scanners, and multimeters.
  3. Cellular and Networking Knowledge: Understanding of Cellular RTE, routing and switching protocols, and network synchronization.
  4. Testing and Documentation: Ability to conduct thorough testing and produce detailed test documentation and reports.
  5. Project Management: Ability to administer and execute turnkey projects.
  6. Remote Network Management: Experience with remote network management platforms.
  7. Cisco Hardware and Configuration: Experience with Cisco hardware, ideally with CCNA certification or in the process of obtaining it.
  8. Microsoft Office Proficiency: Competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  9. Training Abilities: Capable of training team members and customers.
  10. Field Work Flexibility: Willingness to perform field activities as required, including GPS and cabinet surveys, telecom equipment installation, commissioning, and fault rectification.
  11. Relevant Qualifications: Possesses or has previously held telecommunications-related qualifications in theory, installation, testing, commissioning, power, and health & safety.
  12. Flexible Approach: Adapts easily to changing work demands and schedules.
