Research Assistant/Research Associate – University of Cambridge

A research position is available in the Ocean Dynamics group at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Dr. John Taylor. The project focuses on numerical simulations to study submesoscales, near-inertial oscillations, and boundary layer turbulence.

This research is part of the international project SUNRISE, funded by the National Science Foundation and the Natural Environment Research Council. The successful applicant will have or be about to receive a PhD in Oceanography, Earth Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals, and projects. They will plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals, and projects.
  • Plan and manage own research and administration, with guidance if required.
  • Assist in the supervision of student projects and the development of student research skills.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Oceanography, Earth Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in fluid dynamics and oceanography.
  • Experience running numerical simulations.
