About the Role


We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our Adolescent and Young Adult Service (AYAS) team at the Tavistock Centre.



Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist psychological assessment and psychoanalytic psychotherapy services to adolescents and young adults aged 14-30. They will also offer advice and consultation to parents/carers and colleagues as appropriate.



Key responsibilities include:



  • Managing a complex caseload, including risk management and clinical governance.
  • Conducting clinical assessments and offering highly skilled treatment or therapy within a psychoanalytic framework.
  • Providing consultation to external agencies such as GPs, schools, and local authorities.
  • Reviewing cases where patients have impasses, complaints, or disputes with their clinical care.
  • Delegating responsibility for investigating complaints and processing Freedom of Information requests.
  • Ensuring standardized assessment questionnaires are completed with clients and systematically collecting data on caseload as required by the team manager.
  • Formulating specialized plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service user/patient's psycho-social difficulties.


About the Team



The AYAS is a specialist Psychoanalytic Therapies Service designed to meet the needs of adolescents and young adults struggling with mental health issues and their families. Our team includes child and adolescent psychotherapists, child psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, and trainees in these disciplines.



We aim to provide a flexible and accessible service, offering a range of interventions, including brief work, time-limited, and longer-term psychotherapy, as well as group psychotherapy. We also provide therapeutic support and consultation to parents and families of adolescents and young adults.



Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A minimum degree-level qualification plus developed specialist and practical knowledge equating to a postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy).
  • Completion of further post-doctoral post-qualification specialist training in psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
  • Evidence of clinical experience working with adolescents and young adults within a psychodynamic framework.
  • Experience supervising clinical psychology trainees and managing complexity and risk while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
  • Demonstrated equality, diversity, and inclusion awareness and application of EDI issues.
  • A high level of skill and knowledge in safeguarding and risk management.

The estimated salary for this position is £62,000 - £83,000 per annum, depending on experience.
