About the Role

The RF Group at Diamond is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of RF equipment essential for the synchrotron's functioning. The team also designs and develops highly reliable RF acceleration systems for Diamond-II.

We are seeking a Senior RF/Electronics Engineer with hands-on experience to support the RF Group with expertise in electronic circuits and systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall work of the RF Group, with particular responsibility for:

  • Designing and developing new electronic circuits and assemblies.
  • Managing and inventorying the RF laboratory, operating and calibrating RF test equipment.
  • Project managing small R&D projects for new products and systems.
  • Studying and developing projects for future upgrades, including amplifier upgrades, electronics upgrades, and auxiliary monitoring and supervision equipment.
  • Undertaking simulation and analysis of installed and future systems using electronic circuit simulators.
  • Inspecting, testing, installing, and maintaining RF/electronic equipment.
  • Liaising with other groups, such as Diagnostics, Accelerator Physics, and Operations, in diagnosis and repair or new systems development and installation.
  • Ensuring safe working practices are followed.
  • Participating in setting up and preparing for beam operation and beam-off periods, RF and general operation shifts.
  • Undertaking on-call duties following training.
  • Occasional shiftwork during commissioning and in support of regular operations.

About You

We are looking for an experienced RF or electronics design professional, preferably with accelerator-related systems experience. You should have expertise in design, production, and testing of electronic circuits, as well as supervision of procurement contracts.

You will also need experience with RF/electronic measurement instruments and data analysis, as well as good hands-on experience in electronic circuits and PCB developments.

A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Electronics, RF Engineering, etc.) or significant equivalent experience is required.

Knowledge/experience in the following areas will be beneficial:

  • RF/electronics simulation tools and PCB design software.
  • Particle accelerator RF systems.
  • Electrical and electronic fault finding.

You will display a willingness to take on a variety of tasks and a desire to learn and face new challenges, and you will demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills to communicate with a range of colleagues.
